Most holidaymakers enjoy visits to the three UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby. Northwards, the former Imperial Capital of Hue offers a place to explore the country’s ancient history. The Imperial Citadel was the seat of government, and its complex of temples, pavilions and moats were restored following the American war. The Tomb of Emperors is the resting place of ancient figures like Khai Dinh and Tu Duc. South of Da Nang, Mỹ Sơn is a 4th century Hindu temple complex – and centre of both religious ceremonies and the burial place of Champa royals and national heroes.
