Malaysia - Penang
This former island free port has retained much of its old world charm. Boasting an eclectic fusion of the old and the new, Penang is also sentimentally reflective of its migrant history, with its street food well renowned worldwide for encompassing ethnic Chinese, Malay and Indian influences.

Its historical capital, George Town, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its distinctive cultural and architectural atmosphere, so much so that it was also the chosen location for classic historical films like Anna & the King and Indochine.

Trudge along the quaint Lorong Kulit and Rope Walk flea markets, or amble down Campbell Street, Chinatown or Little India’s traditional shopping belts, before whisking away into modern comfort by visiting the Gurney Plaza or Queensbay shopping mall. From local handicrafts and antique shops to global brand stores, Penang clearly satisfies every retail craving.

For souvenirs and local food produce, the Batu Ferringhi tourism belt offers exquisite ornaments and other local products. Nutmeg juice, various spices and the famous tau sar pheah (a local biscuit with bean paste filling) can be purchased from the well known Ghee Hiang and Him Heang shops in town.
