Reminisce the past in Fort St. George. Built in 1653, it currently houses the Secretariat and the legislative Parliament of Tamil Nadu, a museum that illustrates its political history, and a banqueting suite going back to 1802. The suite showcases portraits of the governors of the fort. Admire the oldest surviving English church in India, the St. Mary Church that is within the fort. Aside, lies the national flag that flies proudly at a height of 150 feet, the tallest pole in the country.
Located in the south of Mylapore, lies a towering Kapaleeswarar temple. The temple has inscriptions dated back to the 13th century, and the ‘Gopuram’ (tower) structured against the Dravidian architecture style. Examine the walls and pillars of the temple and appreciate the delicate and intricate carvings depicting the Hindu mythology. Under the Punnai trees in the courtyard lies an image of Goddess Parvati, in a peacock form, worshipping Lord Shiva.
