Away from the new high-rises and auto-boom in the city centre, Kunming’s Stone Forest is one of its most popular destinations, its limestone columns towering as high as 40 metres. Then just outside Lijang, find another of China’s must-see spots – Tiger Leaping Gorge, which is believed to be the world’s deepest rock formation. During winter, visit the snow-capped Jade Dragon Mountain in Lijang; the 1,200 year-old Yuantong Temple at the foot of Yuantong Hill is the grandest and most important Buddhist temple in Yunnan.
