  TALES OF A SILKAIR EXPLORER

Every traveller has a unique story to tell. Fond memories never seem to tire: an enchanting trek at Nagarkot in Kathmandu; the glittering sight of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon; that first plunge into Lombok’s Segara Anak Lake. These moments are but small chapters in our life’s journal that we keep revisiting for years to come.

To capture all those fond memories, SilkAir has come up with the ‘SilkAir Explorers’ campaign, an online treasure trove of travel journals, created by the travellers themselves. Prepare to be dazzled by the local cultures, enticed by the exotic cuisines and see Asia in a completely new light, through the eyes of the ‘travellers’.

The SilkAir Explorers site went live on 23 June 2010 and, to celebrate exploration, a competition is in full swing. Participants can simply share their travel journals online and the Grand Winner stands to win one year's worth of air tickets on SilkAir. This competition will run till 31 Dec 2010.

In addition to the Grand Winner, we will also award six monthly winners (from July to December) with a pair of tickets each, to fly to pre-determined Asian destinations. Rufus Tan’s journal, “A Culture Untainted” narrates his journey in Chiang Mai, Thailand and has been selected as the SilkAir Explorers’ July winner. (Please click here to read his journal).

Rufus' trip in Thailand started with an introduction to the peaceful Lisu people and was a visual treat of colourful snapshots. One was his recollection of the Lisu people's favourite drink, corn whiskey. Strong as it was, he wittingly recalled how his guide dealt with the drink by throwing some away when no one was looking. Tan’s narration of the villagers’ recycling practice and his encounters with the village shaman, who also moonlights as an ardent musician, makes for a fascinating read. Rufus concluded by tantalizing our senses with a display of the local home-cooked delicacies that tickled his taste buds.

To read more of Rufus' journey and hundreds of other experiences posted by fellow travellers, log on to www.silkairexplorers.com. Post your travel journal today as you might just win the Grand prize: a year’s worth of FREE FLIGHTS to further explore SilkAir destinations in Asia and a cash prize of S$ 2000.
